"My Gal Sal" Update

5 / 02 / 03

I know it has been a while since we have published anything new regarding the restoration.  The reason being is that we are still very hard at work on details within the interior of “Sal”.  There is a tremendous amount of work in the restoration of the interior of a B-17.  When we set our goals over 3-1/2 years ago to restore “My Gal Sal”, I decided then that I would do my best to make this restoration as authentic as possible.  We are accomplishing this.  Our volunteers still meet once a week with special projects that, when completed, will accomplish our goal of authenticity.

During the past few months, I have had the wonderful opportunity of meeting a number of folks who have visited the restoration.  These include people who are just interested, as well as veterans who flew and served on B-17’s.  One of our most interesting visitors was Astronaut Neil Armstrong.  We were honored that Neil spent a couple of hours climbing through the confined interior and was nice enough to write a note congratulating the volunteers who have worked so hard to bring back “Sal”.

We still have a number of months to go, but it will not be long before I will be putting more photographs on our web site showing some of the detail I have mentioned.  To all those who have signed in and to those who have visited “Sal”, we really appreciate your interest and support.
