Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial Guest Log
A great tribute!
Looks really good Bob. I hope all is well with you and the memorial. I have tried many times to contact you, but seems I can't get through to you. I would like to talk with you to see what we can do from here to help you. I would like to come and see you at the end of October if we can work it out. Please let me know. Thanks, John
Awesome website! I really enjoyed following the progress of My Gal Sal. Thanks for providing such a thorough history of the restoration!
Jack Keller invited us to see your site. Thanks for all you are doing for My Gal Sal and for preserving our freedom. KP
We saw your awesome restoration work on My Gal Sal last week during our reunion. I'm passing around the photos to my volunteers.
Visited the hangar Sept.13, 2003 during the 390th BG Reunion. We were very impressed with the progress of restoration and the purpose of the memorial. Will send boots, B4 bag and leather pants on my return to the Keys. Good luck. Mel J.
Thanks for doing this. My dad was a left waist gunner in a B-17, European Theatre, 341st squadron, 97 Bomb Group. I'm very proud of what he did for our country and wish I could find out more about his missions. He DID NOT talk about his experiences and I can't say I blame him. He passed away about 7 years ago. I miss him terribly. If anyone knows where I can get information particular to his squadron, please, please email me. Thanx
My Uncle, 2nd Lt. Otis H. Ruble, Jr.,was Co-Pilot of a B-17, and after 20 missions was shot down during raid over Hamburg, Germany on 30 March, 1945.
I have been to the site of My Gal Sal. My uncle, Charles Chapman, was on the plane when it went down. He is now dead.... but many times he told me about the crash and rescue. I believe he had a pearl handled pistol that was left behind and recovered when Sal was discovered. I may be wrong.... but I thought the pistol was taken to the museum at Wright-Patterson. Of course, I have the LIFE Magazine article that was published on the crew and the plane November 20th, 1964. My father, was not able to go to war.... but was a foreman at Bell Aircraft in Marietta, Georgia where the B-29's were built. Dad was foreman for building the plane from the wings forward. My mother worked in accounting. I was born while they were there. Good luck with your work. That generation of men and women..... as has been said many times.... was the greatest generation ever!

Hi, To whoever it may concern. Being a Former Farmer, Former Aerial Gunner, (Tail Gunner on a B-17), Former Prisoner of War, after 25 missions. I take great pride being among the WWII airmen who pioneered in the flight of aircraft in war. An achievement to bring us from the mechanical propeller driven aircraft into the exploration of jet propulsion and the later venture into space. The USM Foundation deserves congratulations in their rebuilding of this aircraft (My Gal Sal) and their help to perpetuate the memory of all those airmen who gave the Supreme Sacrifice for the Freedoms we enjoy today. The legacy we all leave will be honored hopefully by those who come after. God go with you, good luck. Regards, Hoffcarl, Marion.
Win, lose, or draw I wish I could have been a crew member of a B17 during WW11. l was born too late.
Lt. Donald Bone, bombardier, was my brother-in-law. Hope to stop by and see the re-construction of "My Gal Sal".
My grandfather was a bombardier in the 15th Air Force. He was t/sgt Robert L King. He didn't tell us much about the war and now he is gone. If anyone can help me with information my family would love it. We think he flew in a B-17.
Bob and Scott: Thank you for taking the time and effort on August 18, 2003 to tell our group (The Flying Funeral Directors of America) the exciting story of the loss, recovery, restoration, and the educational purposes of the "My Gal Sal" project. It is a wonderful tribute to the Army Air Force and an excellent historical teaching project. We are pleased to contribute a monetary donation to your organization. Sincerely, James Quiram, Past President of FFDA
What a wonderful site. Can we come and see it sometime? Where is it located? Sincerely, Cy
THE B-17 FLYING FORTRESS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE WW2 AIRCRAFT; I REALLY LOVE THIS AIRCRAFT. I HAVE READ SO MANY ARTICLES ON THIS AIRCRAFT AND THEIR COURAGEOUS CREWS, ITS REALLY AMAZING. I WISH THAT THIS BEAUTY LIVES WITH US UNTIL THE END OF TIME. IT'S WORTH PRESERVING AND FLYING THIS LEGENDARY UNMATCHED BEAUTY EVER BUILT. HATS OFF TO THE USA. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK RESTORING THIS BEAUTIFUL BIRD.
Just wanted to say how much I enjoy hearing from the old timers. My Dad was a ball turret gunner, 26 missions. Its kinda hard to get the kids today to realize how hard it was to fly into a hell of flack. On one mission he lost two or three 17's. He counted the guys that made it out. He was 19. I have been searching forever trying to find some of his crew. One that I was named after remained friends until he died several years back. Anyway his plane was 48423, he was with the 96th 337th. I have pics, and would love to give them to their kin.
I am extremely impressed with the quality of restoration you have done- am anxious to see your B-17 in person !
Enjoyed the site !
This is an excellent site. So very informative. I am very much in awe of the B-17 and the crews who flew them. I have books, videos and models of this beautiful aircraft. My ultimate dream before I leave this earth, is to go up in a B-17. It is getting to be a tight schedule now. I am approaching 70. But never give up on your dreams. Thank you for a wonderful site. And I pray that you will be successful in restoring "My Gal Sal" and many more. The crews memories are too precious to let go.
Co-pilot, B-17G Thunderbird, Lone Star Flight Museum, Galveston, Texas. Beautiful job and great web site.
I am a member of the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston and have made several air shows in the museum's B-17 "Thunderbird". Do you have a completion date on your restoration?

I have just read your beautiful poem in the comment section. If you ever sign on again, I would like to know where it is from please
I have only just found this site and from what I have seen already I am hooked!! I really like the fortress and have been reading all about the 385th at the moment. Have been swapping e mails with the ball turret gunner from The Warhorse. I am also a member of the Sally B17 preservation group at Duxford - it is a joy to see her flying. Keep up your good work guys. I will be back!!
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!
I stopped at the Tillamook air museum and heard about My Gal Sal. I decided to check out the website and thought that what you guys are doing is very nice. Keep at it and I hope to see it finished.
