August 26 1999

After a couple of weeks without any news, I'm sure everyone following this effort is interested to learn where we are today with regard to our project. We have been successful locating the evidence we believed still existed at the base camp set up by the crew of aircraft #2 after their landing on the frozen fjord. We were also successful in using the sonar to locate what we believe is the aircraft itself setting on the bottom of the fjord. Unfortunately, by the time the team had accomplished these milestones, we had begun to run out of resources and weather. The food and water ran out, and it began to snow. For the safety of everyone involved the decision has been made to suspend operations and regroup. Everyone has returned safely and we are now beginning our planning for the return trip to recover the airplane. Since the weather in this part of the world becomes very unpredictable after August, it will not be possible to return this year. Rest assured this project is not finished. We shall return!
