"My Gal Sal" on the Greenland Icecap

(23 years after ditching)

These photos graphically portray the condition of "My Gal Sal" in 1965. The US government sent in a team to remove parts of 'Sal' for research (i.e. to determine how well certain materials held up in extreme conditions). Destructive winds of up to 170 MPH broke Sal up into many pieces and strewn her about creating a debris field. Also note the dangerous crevices in the icecap where some men lost their lives and made rescue near impossible.
